What is a Bible theme table?
A Bible theme table is a table with a Bible text, and some objects that have a connection with the text. The objects provide the children with a visual, and help them understand the meaning of the text. The visual can also help them with memorizing the text. Young children usually learn most when several of their senses are included in the learning process, including the sense of vision.
Using visuals in teaching is Biblical. For example, all the objects and sacrifices in the tabernacle and temple were visual, and were meant to teach people about God. The prophets were often commanded by God to use visuals or images to support their teaching. Also the Lord Jesus Himself used daily life examples to explain something to people.
At the same time, the Bible text is more important than the visual images. The objects and pictures at the theme table are meant to support the teaching of God's Word, not to replace God's Word or the Bible text.

Bible theme tables
Every theme table comes with a document with ideas for objects for the theme table. It also includes helpful tips or discussion questions to introduce the text, and to explain the meaning of the text.
Of course, these are just ideas and suggestions. You can introduce the Bible texts and make the Bible theme tables your own way too!
Theme tables can be made using a wooden crate, a serving tray, a table, or another designated space.

Bible theme tables do not have to be fancy at all. The point is to make a visual for children. Especially for younger children, it is great to make a Bible theme table about a history. This Bible theme table is about the history of the shepherds, who heard about the birth of Jesus. They went to see Him right away. After reading the Bible story with the children, you can place the children's Bible with the picture of this history on the Bible theme table. If you have some other objects (such as toy sheep), you can place them on the theme table as well. I added a card with Luke 2:11. For unto you is born this day in the city of David a Saviour, which is Christ the Lord. |

And Aaron shall bring the goat upon which the LORD'S lot fell, and offer him for a sin offering. Acts 1:9 And when he had spoken these things, while they beheld, he was taken up; and a cloud received him out of their sight. A connection is made to the second coming of Christ. Acts 1:11b (this same Jesus, which is taken up from you into heaven, shall so come in like manner as ye have seen him go into heaven) would have been a very suitable text for this theme table as well. |
