Crafts
The downloadable file contains cards with the words of the Lord's prayer, as well as instructions for making the praying hands holding the prayer. Children can trace their own hand in order to personalize the craft.
The idea for this craft is taken from Bijbels Opvoeden. Take a Moment received permission to make an English version.

This craft is made by Bijbelknutsels (instagram: @bijbelse_knutsels) and is posted with their permission.
Needed:
- Hammer and nails - Box/cardboard/wood/Styrofoam - Optional: coloured paper - Wool/yarn - Template (download below) - Black marker
|
Take a piece of wood, a thick piece of cardboard, a box, or a piece of Styrofoam. You can wrap this in coloured paper, if you'd like.
Lay the template on your wood/box/Styrofoam. Using your hammer, put a nail through every black dot of the template. Remove the template, leaving only the nails. Use wool or yarn to make the shape: wrap it around the nail once before moving on to the next nail. Using your black marker, write on the top: Read your Bible. Write Pray every day in the hands. |
The parable of the Pharisee and publican fits in very well with Prayer Day. You can download the instructions and templates for this craft about the Pharisee and publican below.
Click here for more resources about the parables.

Fold a sheet of paper or cardstock in half. Trace your child's hand, with the little finger touching the fold. Cut the hand, but leave the little fingers attached to each other. This way, the hands fold open.
Write "Prayer Day" and the current year on the outside. On the inside, write: "I want to pray for ...". Then, write on each finger something to pray for. Try to let your child com up with his/her own ideas. |
You can download the instructions and templates for the craft below. Thanks to Bijbels Opvoeden who gave permission to post an English version of their craft!

Bible reading schedule
This schedule has a portion of Scripture to read for every day of the week of Prayer Day. Since most reformed churches observe Prayer Day on Wednesday, the schedule starts at Thursday prior to Prayer Day.
This Bible reading schedule is great to use with families, for example, for the Bible reading after supper. Some of the questions are easier, while others are more difficult, in order to make this a useful activity for the whole family. Check the Bible Reading Schedules page on this website for Bible reading schedules around other Christian events.

Bible study series
|
"People Who Prayed" is a series with devotional activities for children between 8 and 12 years old. The children can work through the activities with an adult. The series has five chapters.
Each chapter is two pages long, and includes: * A portion of Scripture to read * An explanation of (parts of) the Scripture portion * A few deep thinking questions * A themed puzzle or a review activity * A song. The tunes of the songs will generally be well known. The song is written specifically for each chapter. |
Songs
These songs are written for the Bible study series "People Who Prayed", but they can also be sung on their own. Each song is in a separate downloadable file.
