Reformation Day: Luther Rose/Seal
Luther designed this rose/seal. All the symbols and colours have a meaning, as is described in the last stanza of the Luther League Hymn:
We proudly bear as banner A cross within the heart, To show that we have chosen Christ the better part. Then joy and peace and comfort Shall blossom as a rose, Until our earthly blessings The worth of heaven disclose. All hail, our glorious Saviour! We march where thou hast trod, To seek thy house of triumph, The city of our God! |
Reformation Day: Five Solas of the Reformation
The five solas of the Reformation are:
Sola Fide, by faith alone. Sola Scriptura, by Scripture alone. Solus Christus, through Christ alone. Sola Gratia, by grace alone. Soli Deo Gloria, glory to God alone. This document contains several Scripture verses. You can look these up with your children, match the Scripture verses with the different "solas", and discuss the meaning of these "solas". |

Halloween: Hand out tracts?
Opinions
Is it a good idea to spread the gospel by handing out tracts to trick-or-treaters who come to the door? The opinions are diverse, but mostly fit within one of these four categories:
1. Good idea. It might be the only time they hear the gospel.
2. It is wrong. By answering the door and giving something to trick-or-treaters, you participate in Halloween activities. We should stay away from Halloween.
3. It is fine as long as you only hand out gospel tracts, no treats.
4. Do not answer the door, but put a basket with tracts by the door, with a sign to invite people to take a tract.
Every person has his/her own conscience, and has to make his/her own decision on this.
Trinitarian Bible Society
If you do want to hand out tracts, I would recommend browsing the TBS online store. (If you click on the link, you go to the TBS homepage. If you go to the "Store" tab, you will be able to visit the online store from your country.) The TBS store has different tracts available, as well cards, book marks, and colouring books for children. You can use these items to hand out.
Take a Moment
Take a Moment has developed an evangelizing brochure. You can download the brochure, print it double sided (flip on the short side), fold it, and hand it out to trick or treaters.
